Special Olympics Bangladesh (SOBD) has secured a historic double championship, winning both the Male and Female Division 1 titles at the Special Olympics Southeast Asia Football Competition 2025 held in Bandung, Indonesia, from 10–14 November.
The regional tournament brought together teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Bangladesh, celebrating inclusion, athleticism and regional camaraderie.
Following two months of intensive training, the Bangladesh squads delivered dominant performances throughout the competition. The Male Division 1 team sealed their title with a confident 3–1 victory over hosts Indonesia in the final. The Female Division 1 team then completed the sweep with a thrilling 5–3 win against Thailand, marking an unprecedented achievement for Bangladesh on the regional Special Olympics stage.
The victories have sparked widespread pride at home, highlighting the discipline, resilience and exceptional sportsmanship of SOBD athletes. Kamran Sunjoy Rahman, Treasurer of SOBD and Head of Delegation for the men’s team, and Professor Dr. Ajanta Rani Saha, Director of SOBD and Head of Delegation for the women’s team, praised the dedication of the athletes, coaches and organizers.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Indonesia, His Excellency Tarikul Islam, congratulated the teams at the closing ceremony. SOBD Chairman Moshiur Rahman and National Director Faruqul Islam also extended their appreciation to Special Olympics Indonesia and the Asia Pacific Regional Office for successfully hosting the event.
